Chapter 2:

Hello fellow citizens, I am George Washington and sadly I have been dead for many years.  Before I had past away I made sure that I left you with my thoughts and my advice.  If you do recall it was called my Farwell Address, warning you as Americans to make sure not to let us get into trouble that we can not find a way out of.  Though I can see that a lot has happened since I have passed, and I am very pleased with what I have witnessed as a ghost up here in heaven.  I would like to just go over a few important events that we as Americans have decided to endure.   I am mostly happy with our decisions, but a few I would have done a little bit differently. So as I go through these events I would like to state my reactions to them.

First, I would like to mention the Louisiana Purchase.  At this time Thomas Jefferson was president, and as I can see he seemed like a very good man. I feel like his choice of purchasing the Louisiana territory was a very well thought out decision for the United Sates.  This purchase although coasted us about 15 million dollars it about doubled the size of the United States.  I can tell that he was very brave because he went against the crowd and just made the right decision by accepting the purchase with Napoleon Bonaparte.

Second, the War of 1812 between us and Great Britain was a great, but bloody war.  During this war many small battles between the two were fought, both winning some and loosing some.  I feel like it never would have happened if the British never violated us.  I was visiting America as a ghost the day the British came aboard and stated that they had the right to come board our ships and take the British sailors and a few Americans, to go and work for there ships instead.  I tell ya at that very moment I knew we had to do something or we would slowly go down hill from there.  So I saw us as smart Americans when the Embargo Act was passed banning all American ships from foreign trade. After this happened, I watched our honor be violated, and was glad to see we announced war on Great Britain.  To cut to the chase it was a long war, but I feel like we made the right choices and in the end won. My only disappointment is that we didn’t solve anything between us, but again if we didn’t react who knows where we would be today.
Third, when the Monroe Doctrine was passed I was sort of confused on whether or not it was a good choice.  But, after seeing how it helped us stay away from Europe I feel it was good after all.  On December 2, 1823 it stated that if Europe doesn’t interfere with us then we won’t interfere with them.  It would make sure that the new and the old worlds would remain separate and not interfered with.  This follows my advice to avoid "entangled alliances."

Fourth, Manifest Destiny occurred in America.  I saw this as a thing that could be good or a down fall. It seemed sort of strange. How could it be a belief that the United States was destined to expand across the North American continent form Atlantic to the Pacific.  After all it turned out good, letting us establish political authority across North America.
Fifth, was the Mexican-American War, which occurred after the annexation of Texas and Oregon.  Witnessing this was interesting for me to see. The U.S. and Mexico fought over the possession of Texas.  Mexico was angry when they heard that the U.S. was annexing Texas, even though Texas was not part of Mexico anymore after the Texas Revolution.   On December 29, 1845 Texas was annexed and became the 28th state.  This whole war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, and in 1848 when Mexico ceded to the U.S.  Over all we got what we wanted, which was good.  Fighting with Mexico was the only answer, because they started it, and if we didn’t then we would have been crushed.  It is truly sad to be dead and to not be a part of it all.  But at least I can still tell you my thoughts on it all.  I think my fellow mates have done an awesome job in avoiding mad alliances.
