Chapter 10:

Hello I am Brieanne Kristina Evans and I am here from the present to tell you my thought on America becoming an Empire.  There are a few positive and a few negative effects of this, and in the end I will express my opinion on this exciting topic.

POSITIVE:

To start, America became an empire hoping to grow in military, economic, political, and social reasons.  As you can guess these were the positive effects of becoming an empire.

First, I would like to mention the economic reasons for becoming an empire. It is a way that helped the government and the people out.  Our government was strong and received the rights to go and take our countries resources.  The government had the right to tax who ever they wanted, and they decided that the rich had more money so they taxed the rich and didn’t really mind the poor.  In them doing this it helped us to get out of debt form the civil war.

Second, I would like to talk about the military reasons.  Our government wanted a strong military to show the other countries that we were strong and that they didn’t want to mess with us.  Also, if we could portray our strong military than the other countries might start to respect us more.  The government also felt that just in case we had a problem or had to negotiate we had the military to protect us.

Third, the government wanted to grow for social reasons.  The government wanted this strongly so that they would have control over people and could make them change what we wanted them to believe in or their language and all together their lives.  They would then feel very powerful and in control from the other countries.  I learned that all they wanted was to shape the American culture into what they wanted, and if other countries saw us in control they would take us more seriously in our opinion and give us power in away that no other person could reject.

NEGATIVE:

On the other side there were some negative effects of America developing as an Empire.  I watched how we took peoples freedom away and not letting anyone be different then the other.  All the individualism in America was gone and no one was special or stood out.  The government had our control and told us what we could and could not do. Also, no one was richer every one was in the same social class taking away any kind of money form the poor to. Us becoming n Empire seemed sort of cruel and evil for people, and only helped the government.

MY OVERALL ASSESMENT:

So I have reached the end of the information and would now like to express my opinion on this fact.  I feel like we should not have become an empire.  It was a way for the government to gain control and fame and for people the chance to feel like prisoners. It definitely was a way that helped our economy, but the people sacrificed so much for our country and the government.  I don’t think the people ever agreed with this choice but were forced to.  The main thing to bother me was in the end there were no individualism left. That is what makes America beautiful and different, no one is the same and everyone has the right to do as they please and dress like they want to.

So I suppose that America becoming an Empire was good and bad, but I concluded as I have already said that it was not an overall good idea. Just imagine not have freedom, and the right to decide what you get to believe in?
