Chapter 3:

God Bless America …. O sorry I just love that song it’s my favorite, well it ought to be right I am the American Flag.  I also love my country, which is expanding at a great rate.  Currently we are in negotiation with Russia in purchasing Alaska.  I am proud to state that it would be our 49th state.  Just the other day William Seward secretary of state for Russia called up President Andrew Johnson asking us, the United States of America if we would be interested in buying Alaska from them.  At first we didn’t know how to react and couldn’t seem to decide if it was the right choice to spend money on another state.   We were then explained that if we didn’t buy it then they might have to let Britain have it, which would be bad because it would strengthen them.  See at this time Russia and Britain didn’t get along after the war in Crimea, and they felt that we should buy it because they helped the north in the Civil War.  So, we decided to buy it on March 30, 1859.  It cost us 7.2 million dollars which at the time seemed a lot, for so little we were getting in return.  We thought of it as a way for us to get more powerful, and to control more land.

A few days went by and we had discovered a lot about out 49th state, Alaska.  We found that it was rich in oil, timber and minerals. Ya, that was an exciting day for me to be able to fly in the air in Alaska and see how happy we were over how much we could make over oil.  A few years pasted and it was finally a state in 1959.  But, in deciding to buy Alaska from Russia we heard about Japans Prime Minister Ito Hirobumi, which was interested also in purchasing Alaska from them.  He had already negotiated the Treaty of Saint Petersburg with Russia, taking back the Kuril Island.  He was now becoming greedy, but we had purchased it before they could do anything about it.

Now at this point I was flying high in Alaska wishing I was in a warmer state, but happy I was know in 49 states instead of 48. After we bought Alaska we became interested in Hawaii.  But it was not going to be so easy to take it over.  Our plan was to go to the queen, Liluokalani and to tell her to stop being queen or we would make her.  We hoped this would work so that it would help to extend our territory in the pacific.  Also, we were concerned that it would become a part of Europe so we hoped we would get it.  Hawaii was the main place for trade; it was easy to go to and to ship out goods. Sadly one day I heard that the queen went against us, and we had to imprison her so that she wouldn’t distract out plan

In 1898 we took over Hawaii, calling it ours.  We new in the beginning we were getting a good state, but we soon found out how good it actually was.  It was a good place for American whaling ships to stop and refill supplies, and also it had beautiful soil which was awesome for growing sugar canes.  Sugar cans were one of the most important crops; it could be used for many things making a lot of money.  Also once we acquired it we built a base which helped us to be protected from anything, especially Japan in WW11.  The sad thing was he could live peacefully in Hawaii Japan wanted too.  We had to make sure they didn’t because it would make them really strong, both in military by having a base in the pacific and economically by having both our crops and by improving trade with other countries. Well we sure are strong because we stopped them, letting us conclude 50 states in 1959.  I am proud to say I am the American Flag, and I am in all 50 states there to represent freedom and the USA.
